BOK REVIEW: The Respect Dare

I was given the privilege of reading this book for the purpose of reviewing it. The book was provided for free in exchange for my unbiased review.

The book dares women to respect their husbands unconditionally for 40 days because Paul teaches women in the bible that this is God's will. It seems unfair because we generally think of respect as something earned. But the Bible calls women to respect their husbands. Period.

It can be hard to learn how to unconditionally respect our husbands, so this book provides many real-life stories and thought-provoking questions to help the reader on this God-inspired journey. In fact, the author encourages the reader by saying in 40 days our marriages will experience more intimacy. What women wouldn't want that?

I feel like the book sent mixed signals. On one hand it says to respect your husband no matter what and on the other hand it makes clear that a woman need not stay in an abusive relationship nor become a door mat. It also says to respect him no matter what he does, leaving out the wife's role as help mate. There is nothing wrong with the wife paying the bills, making sure the utilities do not get shut off.  Rather than the husband having to learn by experiencing consequences, I think the wife can respectfully help him so that she nor the children have to suffer those consequences.

There is plenty of good advice in the book and some of the stories are helpful, some are not. If you choose to read this book I think that you will glean good information from it, just do some sifting.
