Book Review- Beauty for Ashes by: Dorothy Love

Carrie Daly is a beautiful young widow who has suffered much in her life. Lonely and longing to raise a family she lives a selfless life. She lives in Hickory Ridge, Tennessee, and everyone is expecting her to marry Nate Chastain.

Griff Rutledge is new to Hickory Ridge. He is a former member of Charleston society, with a questionable past. Hickory Ridge is in need of an economic boost as times are tough, and Griff is asked to train a Thoroughbred for an upcoming race. Even though he typically doesn't stay in one place for long, there is something about this town, So he decides to stay awhile.

I am normally not a "romance novel" kind of person. This is a love story, but the story really focuses on the town, and the characters and their growing faith more than the romance angle. Ms. Love is a very good writer. I found myself wanting to read more, even if the plot was rather predictable. At least it was predictable in all the right ways.

This is the second book in the series, but I found that it stood alone quite well. The first book centers on two of the characters in this book, and tells their individual stories. So you may decide to read them in order, but I think this book can be read first with no confusion what so ever. If you are interested in an easy to read comfortable Christian Romance, than this book is for you.
